okf-builder
Knowledge that
survives the session.
okf-builder is an Agent Skills toolchain for OKF (Open Knowledge Format) knowledge catalogs — directories of markdown files with YAML frontmatter that capture context, decisions, and curated insight. Four pre-compiled Go binaries let your agents author, validate, migrate, and read them.
The Toolchain
Four binaries. One catalog format.
Each binary does one job and exits clean, so agents can chain them without parsing human-readable output.
okf-validate
Checks a bundle against the OKF v0.2 spec: frontmatter vocabulary, typed concepts, and required structure.
okf-regenerate-index
Regenerates index.md from the bundle contents, so the catalog entrypoint never drifts from the files.
okf-check-links
Verifies every relative link across the bundle resolves. No dead references between concepts.
okf-migrate-v01-to-v02
Upgrades v0.1 bundles to the v0.2 spec automatically — frontmatter, structure, and all.
Why OKF
Notes agents can actually read back
Context is the scarce resource
Agents forget everything between sessions. OKF gives them a place to put what they learned — and okf-builder gives them the procedure to keep that place honest.
Humans and agents, one format
Plain markdown with YAML frontmatter. Read it in any editor, grep it in a terminal, or hand it to an LLM — same files, no export step.
Structured, not freeform
Typed concepts with generated and verified frontmatter turn loose notes into a queryable knowledge base with validation rules you can enforce.
Validated by its own tools
The okf-builder docs are themselves an OKF v0.2 bundle, checked by the same okf-validate binary the skill ships. Dogfooded end to end.
Install once, every agent picks it up
Step 1: Download the release archive
Grab the tarball for your platform from the GitHub releases page. Pre-compiled — no Go toolchain needed.
Step 2: Drop it into your skills directory
The archive is flat: SKILL.md plus a scripts/ directory. Extract straight into your runtime’s skills folder.
Step 3: Let the agent take over
Works in any Agent Skills runtime — Claude Code, OpenClaw, and friends. The agent loads the SKILL.md procedure and runs the binaries.
Questions
What is OKF, exactly?
The Open Knowledge Format is a convention for directories of markdown files with YAML frontmatter, originally from GoogleCloudPlatform’s knowledge-catalog. It defines the bundle structure, frontmatter vocabulary, and validation rules.
Which OKF spec version does it enforce?
OKF v0.2. Bundles on the older v0.1 spec can be upgraded in place with okf-migrate-v01-to-v02.
Why pre-compiled Go binaries instead of scripts?
No runtime dependencies on the host — no Python, no Node, no shell quirks. Agents download one archive and the tools just run.
Does it only work with Claude Code?
No. It ships in the Agent Skills format, so any runtime that loads skills — Claude Code, OpenClaw, and others — can pick it up.
Give your agents a memory
